PROFILE PICTURE

Welcome to my blog!

If you are in for an adventure paired with lengthy, quirky, brutal honest thoughts then you are in the right place.

My name is Arisa and was a cosplayer for 12 years in Malaysia before settling down in Kyoto, Japan. Exploring Japan full time has been a long time dream of mine, so let's explore it together!

Baking With Arisa

It's definitely a lie lol. Been trying so hard to make the healthier version of my favourite cakes and cookies but it seems none of them turned out lol. I kid you not.
Seems that i am really not fated to be in the kitchen *sobs* on the bright side means i have to get a future husband who can cook (and wash dishes too, yes i am lazy :D)

I obviously didn't invent the ingredients for these cookies but it was just one of my weekend experiments, aside from sewing. Not to mention i have so many friends who can cook and bake (not to mention decorate too!) they are constantly spamming my Facebook wall with their yummy-licious creations *drools*

I blame you Abigail, Suanne and Nani!!!! *sobs* you girls bake the most awesome things I've ever seen. Not to mention the pretty foodporn pictures that usually pop up when you are searching for a recipe (even if it's low fat, flourless or healthy lol)

Photos found on Pinterest- credits to their original creators.

Hence i gave them a term called: "Hands of God" lol<-- dramatic much? Got this line from the surgeon in a Korean movie : 100 pound beauty
As much this movie doesn't really send a good message to the society especially girls on their physical appearance but you have to give them credits for their exaggerated acting and lines. Totally Priceless.

Ingredients
  • 1/2 cup sucanat  Replaced with Molasses
  • 1 cup Normal Rolled oats
  • 2 T applesauce (or more oil)
  • 2 T milk (I used dutch lady low fat)
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/3 cup chocolate chips (I used dark chocolate)
  • 1/4 tsp salt
Okay, so i basically skipped the oil and the salt part because i thought they were not really necessary since we are talking about oat cookies right? I know my logic abit weird la or maybe i am still showing signs of paranoia towards oil TT_____TT

Yep that brown-ish thing is the applesauce

Applesauce is one thing that i found super duper hard to find in Malaysia, it's another replacement for butter in most baking ingredients because of it's texture. But i found out how you can make your very own applesauce with no preservatives and cheaper too. As for me i recommend to use fuji apple since it's widely available locally and doesn't cost a bomb, well if you are too lazy i found a Ben's grocers in  Publika that sells applesauce but it's expensive la.

For a healthier less sweeter option i replaced my sugar with organic raw honey instead, still taste awesomely sweet though.
Oh, another butter replacement alternative is mashed up banana :D that works too!

Ignore the banana, wasn't used in these cookies.
That white stuff in the bowl isn't flour but OAT FLOUR, easily made by dumping your rolled oats in the blender or food processors. Viola! Flour replacement is created lol.

Here comes the funny part of the story, I took very serious precautions to followed the instructions very carefully so that it turns out this time unlike my previous baking disaster episode.

Oven preheated and all ready for the cookie dough to go in, i seriously thought that this time would turn out even if it doesn't look as good as the originals. Judging at the photos also you won't see this coming lol.
"Full of Surprises" seems to be my middle name.

Before bake, i didn't know what was a baking sheet (epic fail) i once used a tracing paper instead which ended up as a disaster so this time i left the paper out.
My phone photography skills considered 'passed' la :D lol but sorry, can't afford nice baking equipments so please bear with me on the hand me down items that i am grateful to receive from my mom. After baking the cookies at least looks decent enough to be eaten no?

How about taste? Errrrrr.....
Here comes the "Surprise" part :D
It ended up tasting really bitter and salty, this time i am super duper puzzled because i did not add a single pinch of salt and the dark chocolates wasn't at all the bitter type. I totally give up on baking liao, so not fated to do this kind of stuff lololol.

But if you have me for a housemate, i will guarantee you that not even once a single day will pass by without it being interesting.
Gave both of my housemates to try at first bite they seem okay and here comes the funny part LOL...
One spat it out saying super bitter till he had to brush his teeth and the other one said too salty.

Here i shall conclude that i am a real life anime character that can't cook even by following the recipe book, just like Akane Tendo from Ranma 1/2 by legendary mangaka Takahashi Rumiko (creator of Inuyasha too!).
Funny thing is she is the first character i cosplayed 9 years ago~

Instead of throwing them away, "i thought it was such a waste of effort since i spent so much time making these. So why waste them?"

That night was also expecting some old friends to drop by for a visit and i bet you know where this is going lol. I carefully packaged them nicely into a jar (siap with ribbon bow on top) to take pictures and offered them the cookies.

Ohohoh~ ~

I managed to kill 5 guys in one day with my horrible baking skills AHAHAHA!
Sorry Jc, Kang, Quaz, Rad and Sichiri! XD

Now....who wants to be my guinea pig next? *w*

XOXO,
